Mike Sims-Walker Offered To Be Brandon Marshall’s Fall Guy For Punching Woman In Club
Well, it looks like somebody was going to take hall of fame WR Cris Carter’s advice and be a fall guy. Current Jets WR Brandon Marshall is being accused of a March 2012 punch to a woman’s face that caused lingering eye, neck, and back injuries.
“Marshall was present for opening statements and the testimony from Myles. The presentation included surveillance video of an incident that happened inside the Marquee nightclub on March 11, 2012, with a pair champagne bottles and ice buckets tossed toward a group that included Marshall, his wife, and former NFL receiver Mike Sims-Walker. A bottle cut Marshall’s wife on the lip, and they left the club to wait for an ambulance.”
Mike-Sims Walker says he volunteered to take the fall for Brandon Marshall. In a video deposition that was relayed to the jury Wednesday, admitted to texting Marshall that he could “take the blame” if need be.
Sims-Walker, the former Rams and Jaguars receiver, had a video deposition read into the record in which text messages between him and Marshall were explained to the jury.
“If I need to, I’ll take the blame; I’ll say I hit her,” Sims-Walker acknowledged having texted to Marshall at one point.
Sims-Walker, a former teammates of Marshall’s at the University of Central Florida, later admitted Marshall at no point asked him to take the blame. Marshall responded to Sims-Walker’s offer by saying it would not be necessary.
“We have the footage,” Marshall told Sims-Walker, while declining the offer.
According to NJ.com — grainy security video shown Wednesday in court seems to show Marshall throwing a punch, but it’s not clear, if it was in defense of his wife Michi — who was struck in the face by a bottle inside the club and had a few teeth knocked out and her lip split.
