Cubs Slugger Kyle Schwarber Carted Off Field After Nasty Collision (Video)
Just about every baseball expert in the country has picked the Cubs to win the NL Central this year, and at least half of them have picked the Cubs to win the World Series. However, while the team is absolutely stacked with premium talent, anything can happen during the course of a 162-game season. Especially when you’re playing a full-figured masher like Kyle Schwarber in left field.
On Thursday night in Arizona, Schwarber had to be carted off the field after colliding with center fielder Dexter Fowler in the bottom of the second. Both were going for a ball to the gap off the bat of Jean Segura that neither had any real chance of catching. Luckily Fowler lunged for the ball at the last second. If Schwarber had plowed into Fowler with his 6’0″, 245-pound frame at full speed…well, things could have been much worse.
As it is, Schwarber came away with what seems like a severe ankle sprain and maybe some damage to his knee. The Cubs will know more when he has an MRI on Friday.
Take a look:
Schwarber, just 23, knocked 16 dingers in just 69 games for the Cubs last season, and that doesn’t even include the legendary moonshot he hit off the Cardinals in Game 4 of the NLDS. You can bet Cubs fans everywhere are holding their breath waiting for the results of the MRI.
