Braves Pitcher Daniel Winkler Fractures His Elbow During a Pitch (Video)

When Atlanta Braves reliever Daniel Winkler fractured his right elbow while throwing a cutter during the seventh inning of Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, there was no disgusting sight or terrifying sound the moment it happened.  But it was still a pretty painful scene to watch.

That’s because of Winkler’s reaction, which should give us all a very good idea of just how much it hurt.

It’s a disappointing setback for the 26-year-old righty, who had struck out 21 of the 48 batters he faced since returning from Tommy John Surgery during spring training.

“Just got the cutter away and all of a sudden just heard a crack,” Winkler said while speaking about the injury. “Hopefully the ligament’s still fine and it’s just (the) bone. Hopefully just gotta let it heal. We’ll see.”
