Flea From the Red Hot Chili Peppers Plays National Anthem for Kobe’s Last Game (Video)
In an effort to make Kobe Bryant‘s last game as a Laker a decidedly Los Angeles affair, the team got a local boy to play the National Anthem in the form of Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The bass player did a weird solo rendition with some pretty funky effects. The inspired choice seems pretty random, but Flea offered up a more memorable performance than many of the overwrought R&B renditions we’ve seen in recent years.
Here’s a clip of the performance:
It’s fitting that one of the undisputed greats of rock music was able to give an undisputed great of the NBA a memorable send-off. Even if it was on a bass guitar, of all things. It sure beat the strange Santana and pedestrian Usher performance we got for last year’s Finals.
