It Didn’t Take Long For the Capitals-Flyers Series to Get Nasty (Videos)

Caps Flyers Brawl

One game.  Not even.

That’s how long it took for these two Metropolitan Division rivals to renew their hatred for one another as things got feisty early and often during Game One of their first round playoff series last night.

Let’s take you through all of the nastiness.

It started early, with Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik taking a couple of first period penalties after talking a few runs at Flyers forward Nick Cousins.

In the second period, Caps superstar Alex Ovechkin ended Sean Couturier‘s evening, and perhaps his entire playoffs, with this bone-crushing check that left the Flyers center with a serious shoulder sprain:

No longer willing to just sit back and be on the receiving end of the Caps’ physical play, Wayne Simmonds of the Flyers decided to fight back, literally, by dropping the gloves with Washington’s Tom Wilson:

And with just a few seconds remaining in the third period and a Capitals victory pretty much in the books, Philadelphia’s Brayden Schenn figured it was the perfect time to begin setting the tone for the rest of the series by decking Caps defenseman Karl Alzner with this nasty check along the boards, setting off one final skirmish in the process:

The Caps emerged with the 2-0 victory, giving them a 1-0 series leads. Game 2 is set for Saturday at 7pm ET.

Needless to say, it should be a fun game…unless you’re actually playing in it.
