You’ve Gotta See This Amazing Alex Gordan Catch (Video)
The World Series champion Kansas City Royals (still weird to say) almost lost one of their most valuable players in the offseason. Left fielder Alex Gordon, a good hitter and superb defender, rejected the Royals qualifying offer last November, and fans were very afraid he was going to bolt (possibly across the state to St. Louis, who had just lost Jason Heyward) because the Royals typically do not pony-up to retain expensive free agents. However, the Royals bucked tradition for Gordon, keeping him in royal blue with a four-year, $70 million contract.
On Thursday night, Alex Gordon reminded the Royals that they invested their money very wisely by robbing the Detorit Tigers’ Justin Upton of extra bases with a ridiculous diving catch in left-center field.
Take a look:
When your pitcher and manager raise their cap for you, you’ve just done something pretty special. And sure enough, according to MLB’s StatCast, Gordon travelled a whopping 122.6 feet to make that catch.
To help you understand just how insane that is, I made this helpful infographic:
I guess next time if Justin Upton wants extra bases he’s just going to have to hit the ball all the way out of the park.
