Floyd Mayweather Comeback? Boxing Legend Says You “Never Know,” Files Trademark Application for “TMT 50” and “TBE 50”
If you thought there was no way Floyd Mayweather would walk away from boxing just one win shy of the greatest record of all time, you may have been right. In an interview with Showtime on Saturday, Mayweather said he’s happily retired, but also hinted that a comeback is not out of the question.
“Everyone is asking me, ‘Is Floyd Mayweather coming back?'” Mayweather said. “Right now, I’m happy being on this side, but I’ve been talking with CBS and Showtime, and you just never know. But right now, I’m just happy on this side.”
When asked what it would take to get him to come out of retirement, Mayweather implied that it would take an obscene amount of money.
“As of right now, some crazy numbers have been thrown my way—upwards, of course, of nine figures,” he told Showtime. “But I’m truly blessed beyond belief, and I really don’t know what we’re going to do. But right now, I’m really happy being on this side helping our fighters.”
Of course, while Floyd says he doesn’t know what he’s going to do, behind the scenes his people are busy preparing to cash in on a Floyd Mayweather comeback. Mayweather needs one more win to get to 50-0 and surpass Rocky Marciano‘s record of 49-0, and Mayweather Promotions has already filed trademark applications for “TMT 50” and “TBE 50″—”The Money Team 50” and “The Best Ever 50.”
So is Floyd going to make a comeback? I certainly would not bet against it.
