On Monday, during his practice round at TPC Sawgrass ahead of this weekend’s prestigious Players Championship, English golfer Greg Owen stripped down to his underwear right in the middle of the 16th hole and waded into a pond to save a drowning bird.

File this one under “things you don’t see everyday.”

Here’s a firsthand account of what happened, via golf instructor Tony Ziegler:

“Working with Greg Owen during his practice round at TPC Sawgrass today for the Players Championship. Walking off the 16 th tee with Greg and Brandt Snedeker when a baby blue jay falls out of a tree, tries to fly across a pond only to make it half way across. What does the 6’5 210 lb big man do? Jump in and save the bird of course!”

Zielger also had the presence of mind to take out his phone and capture Owen’s lifeguard stunt on video. Check it out:

Greg Owen, 44, has just three professional wins on his resume, and seeing as how he’s not even in the top 100 of the World Golf Rankings right now, he’s not even in the conversation when it comes to favorites at the Players Championship. But hey, if you believe in karma it wouldn’t hurt to put a few bucks on Owen.
