Former NFL RB Ricky Williams To Run Weed-Friendly Gym In California

Miami Dolphins vs Oakland Raiders - November 27, 2005

Former Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams, who left his NFL career to pursue a life of smoking weed for a few years, is still at it today. Back in January, Ricky was a part of a panel of former players at the 2016 SoCal Medical Cannabis Cup trying to get the NFL to change their views on Marijuana, and he talked about how he used weed to cope with pain.

I got to a point in my career where I realized, ‘I’m not going to be able to do this much longer,’” Williams said.

“The teams don’t care, you know, they weren’t trying to take care of me,” Williams said. “So, I had to take care of myself. One of the ways I took care of myself was using cannabis.”
“I’d go see the doctor, he’d give me some anti-inflammatories, some pain pills, and just try to rest,” Williams said. “That’s it.
“I think there’s a better way.”
Marijuana got him in a lot of trouble while playing in the NFL, but today he’s trying to profit off of it, now that he’s retired from the game. Williams is a partner and spokesman for Power Plant Fitness, a pot friendly gym that is scheduled to open this fall in San Francisco.

“San Francisco is about to take fitness to a higher level with the world’s first cannabis-friendly gym. Power Plant Fitness, co-founded by 420 Games boss Jim McAlpine and retired NFL player Ricky Williams, aims to battle the increasingly antiquated stoner stereotype by merging athletics and weed for a more balanced workout that fuels both body and mind.

The gym, which is set to open in San Francisco this November, will be run by Williams and will focus on “integrative full body and mind training,”. However, unlike any other gym in the world, members will be able to consume cannabis (inside the gym!) while working out.”

Fight the good fight, Ricky.
