Cavs-Warriors Was The Highest Rated Game 1 Since Lakers-76ers In 2001
A few days ago, Game 7 between the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder was cable’s highest rated NBA game telecast of all time.
“Not just the city, but the world, Craig.” (Most won’t catch the reference.)
On Thursday night, it happened once again, but this time it was ABC delivering the highest rated Finals Game 1 since the Los Angeles Lakers & Philadelphia 76ers faced off against each other in 2001—a game that was carried by NBC.

ABC’s 13.1 overnight rating for Cavs-Warriors is the best for any NBA Finals Game 1 since NBC drew a 15.2 overnight for Lakers-76ers in 2001

On ABC, the previous Game 1 Finals record of 12.9 was delivered last year by the same two teams that are facing each other this year. It also helps that LeBron James & Stephen Curry are both on the court at the same time. Just a tad.
