Brock Lesnar Arm-Wrestled Vince McMahon for Permission to Return to UFC (Video)
On Saturday the UFC announced (eventually) that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was returning to the promotion to fight Mark Hunt in the co-main event for UFC 200 on July 9.
The news left a lot of fans feeling really excited. But it also left them feeling a little confused, since Lesnar has been part of the WWE since retiring from MMA for health reasons back in 2011. How on earth did Lesnar and Dana White convince Vince McMahon to let Lesnar fight for real again in the octagon?
Well, according to Lesnar, it was simple. He just challenged McMahon to an arm wrestling match and won. Or at least, that’s the story he told on SportsCenter Monday:
Obviously, Lesnar was only joking. Or at least he was only mostly joking. The reality, as he explained afterward, is that fighting in the UFC makes him more valuable to the WWE. After all, the guys wears MMA gloves and trunks in his WWE events.
“In the WWE brand, I’m a legit athlete in that brand, and I bring lots to the company,” Lesnar explained. “For me to get back in the Octagon legitimizes why the WWE has me in their company. It’s a win for all of us.”
Can’t really argue with that reasoning. Let’s just hope he doesn’t get his 38-year-old head bashed in on July 9.
