Will Smith and Lennox Lewis Will Serve as Muhammad Ali Paulbearers
The family of Muhammad Ali has announced funeral and memorial arrangements for the legendary boxer, and it turns out Will Smith and former boxer Lennox Lewis will be among the eight pallbearers who lay “The Greatest” to rest.
Lennox Lewis, like Muhammad Ali, was both a heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medalist. Will Smith was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Muhammad Ali in the 2001 biopic, Ali, and the two have been friends ever since. Lewis and Smith will be joined by six other Muhammad Ali friends and family members.
Ali’s funeral services will be held Friday in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. First there will be a procession and private burial. Then there will be a public memorial service at the KFC Yum! Center (home of the Kentucky Wildcats) starting at 2 p.m. ET. There will be 15,000 tickets available to the general public. They can be obtained at the arena box office starting Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET.
You can bet the lines outside the KFC Yum! Center on Wednesday morning will be pretty crazy. Let’s just hope there’s not too much scalping. Ali deserves a classy sendoff.
