New ScHoolboy Q Album “Blank Face” Features Crying Jordan on the Cover (Pic)
Back in 2014, ScHoolboy Q made a big splash on the hip hop scene with his major label debut Oxymoron, which earned him three BET Hip Hop Awards nominations, three Grammy nominations, and an MTV Video Music Award nomination. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting his sophomore effort.
Well, on Tuesday, ScHoolboy Q took to Twitter to reveal details about his next album. It comes out July 8, it’s called Blank Face, and it’s got some pretty amazing cover art.

That’s right. The new ScHoolboy Q album has crying Jordan on the cover. A faceless crying Jordan. But a crying Jordan nonetheless.
When I first heard about this I thought it would be stupid. But then I saw it, and I have to admit I kinda like it.
Of course, the more interesting question is whether Michael Jordan likes it. According to Charles Oakley, His Airness hates this stupid meme. However, Jordan’s people have gone on record saying they don’t mind people having fun with it so long they don’t use it “to promote their commercial interests.” And one would have to think that, in the eyes of Jordan’s lawyers, putting crying Jordan on an album cover is a “commercial interest.”
That said, if Jordan and his lawyers were to take ScHoolboy Q to court, their case would be no slam dunk. (See what I did there? Slam dunk?) Artists get a lot of legal leeway to comment on culture and society. Seeing as how the original crying Jordan image has been significantly altered so as to make some sort of statement on the Blank Face album cover, MJ might not have a case. But we’ll see. I’m not a lawyer. (Sorry mom.)
