“Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo Reports for Mandatory Military Service in Greece (Pic)
Here’s something you don’t see every day. Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, a.k.a. the Greek Freak, has reported for mandatory military service in his native Greece along with his brother, former D-League player Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
Since Wednesday, Greek news outlet Proto Thema has been running photos and video of the Antetokounmpo brothers showing up at a base and wearing military uniforms in what appears to be a barracks.
Take a look:
According to Greek law, citizens who are permanent residents in other countries are required to perform military service for up to three months. However, Antetokounmpo’s stint almost certainly will not last that long. The Milwaukee Bucks have not said anything about this, but they would probably be freaking out if they had any indication that their best player was going to miss training camp.
Then again, you never know. Greece is a pretty crazy place. With his athleticism and superhuman wingspan, Giannis Antetokounmpo will be a valuable addition to their military. Plus, he looks really sharp in his uniform. Maybe Greece will just decide to keep him on indefinitely.
