Check Out This Ridiculous Russell Wilson Poster (Pic)
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is very good at football. He’s also a huge cheeseball. Who better to star in a one-off revival of those ridiculously corny 80s sports posters?
You know the posters, right? Karl Malone dressed as a mailman delivering the mail, only he’s broken the mailbox, and underneath him it says “Special Delivery”? Patrick Ewing standing under the rim with a chainlink fence behind him and a couple of German shepherds by his side, and underneath him it says “Madison Square Guardian”?
Those intentionally campy posters were made by brothers John and Tock Costacos.
“We wanted to make the athletes into comic book heroes,” they explained at a recent exhibition of their posters in New York. “They’re larger than life. They’re Superman. They’re Batman. They’re Hollywood action stars that kick the shit out of 20 bad guys always living to fight another day.”
The Costacos Brothers have been retired from the sports poster biz for over 20 years. However, the Seattle natives recently decided to come out of retirement to make a poster of Danger Russ Wilson, with proceeds going to benefit Wilson’s Why Not You Foundation.
If you grew up in the 80s or early 90s, you’re going to love it.
