Braves Left Fielder Chase d’Arnaud Kisses Fan Who Interfered with Catch (Video)
A Braves fan pulled a Bartman on Thursday night, but Braves left fielder Chase d’Arnaud didn’t yell at the guy. He planted a gentle smooch on his cheek.
The Braves were trailing the Phillies 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Phillies left fielder Cody Asche fouled a Matt Wisler pitch down the third base line. Left fielder d’Arnaud chased after it and had a chance to make the play. However, right as he was getting to the ball, a fan reached over the field and made the catch himself.
It was at that point, while standing face-to-face with the interfering fan, that d’Arnaud gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
Take a look:
Interestingly, even though it was not clear that d’Arnaud was going to make the catch, the umpiring crew came together and decided to rule Asche out on fan interference.
Maybe d’Arnaud planted the smooch because he knew the fan might actually have done him a favor.
The umps’ call certainly didn’t do the fan any favors, though. They had his poor kid in tears while deliberating his fate. Hopefully they were not get ejected from the game.
