Bobby Knight Made Michael Jordan Cry at the 1984 Olympics (Audio)

Aside from the goofy Crying Jordan meme, Michael Jordan has always seemed like a man 100% in control of his emotions. That’s undoubtedly been a big factor in his success in basketball and afterward, but according to Sam Perkins, a younger Jordan wasn’t immune to getting his cage rattled.

In this interview on SiriusXM NBA Radio, former Olympic teammate Sam Perkins said that Bobby Knight managed to make His Airness break down in tears after a Team USA win over the German national team back in 1984.

Here’s the interview, with a brief transcript below:

And the transcript:

“They made it more of a game than we thought it would be. … Bobby Knight, he got after us. One story real quick: He told Michael that’s the worst he ever played. Now Michael’s going to deny this, but he cried. He cried after the game, because of the fact that Bobby Knight told him, ‘You should apologize to everybody in here.’ I waited for the apology because I thought he was going to actually do it. But he actually cried. …

“He just wanted us to wake up for the next game because anything could happen. That’s the way he coached.”

As always, the moral of the story? Bobby Knight is a terrible person.
