Olympic Weightlifter Has the Best Celebratory Dance…For a Good Cause (Video)
David Katoatau didn’t win a medal in the men’s 105kg weightlifting competition. Heck, he didn’t even come close, finishing in 14th place out of 17 competitors.
But he should at least get something for his epic dance moves, which he’s apparently using to help raise awareness towards the climate issues he’s facing in his home country of Kiribati.
Kiribati, located in the Central Pacific, is suffering “extreme coastal erosion not just of the beaches but also of the land” according to its government.
Some scientists have predicted a catastrophic effect on Kiribati’s 21 inhabited islands.
“Most people don’t know where Kiribati is,” Katoatau told Reuters. “I want people to know more about us so I use weightlifting, and my dancing, to show the world.
