Eagles Kicker Gets Hit By Wayward Punt During Pregame, Gets a Damn Concussion
If you were looking for the perfect omen of things to come for the Eagles and their fans this season…I think it’s finally arrived.
Prior to their preseason game against the Steelers on Thursday, kicker Caleb Sturgis was walking around helmetless when he got clocked by an errant punt that shot off the foot of teammate Donnie Jones.
NFL reporters, God bless them, managed to convey the news with a straight face via Twitter:
No K Caleb Sturgis tonight. Wasn’t wearing helmet before game on field, hit on head by punt, suffered concussion

Injury Update: K Caleb Sturgis suffered a concussion during warmups. He will not play in tonight’s game.

Concussions aren’t funny. But bad things happening to the Eagles, especially in this fashion, can definitely be funny.
Sturgis was expected to be the starting kicker this year, though he’s currently in a battle for the spot with former starter Cody Parkey.
If you wondered why teams carry two kickers, here ya go.
