Watch: Usain Bolt Throws Javelin in Olympic Stadium After Everyone Has Gone Home (Video)
Last year Usain Bolt said he intends to retire from athletics following the 2017 World Championships. If he sticks to that plan, it means Friday’s gold medal performance in the 4x100m relay was his last Olympic sprint.
Of course, athletes change their mind about retirement all the time. Michael Phelps said he was done swimming a few years ago, and he just won five more gold medals. But not even Usain Bolt can outrun time, and he’ll be a few weeks shy of 34 years old at the start of the 2020 Summer Olympics. So for now we have to accept that Bolt has most likely run his last Olympic race.
Olympic javelin throwing is another story.
On Friday night, after all the spectators had gone home and they had turned off the lights at Rio’s Maracana Stadium, Usain Bolt decided he wanted to try his hand at throwing the javelin. And because he’s Usain Freaking Bolt, whoever was in charge was like, okay, sure, here you go.
Take a look:
I’m pretty sure Usain Bolt is now the odds-on favorite to take gold in men’s javelin at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Place your bets now.
