Jeff Fisher On The National Anthem: “It’s A Respect Thing. It’s Respect For This Country” (Video)
Since Saturday, social media has been fake outraging about San Francisco 49ers back-up quarterback Colin Kaepernick and his decision to sit while the National Anthem was playing and especially his comments regarding why he did it.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game against Green Bay. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
On HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks,’ which features the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Jeff Fisher gave his players a talk about what he expects during the National Anthem prior to their games.
“National anthem… It’s a respect thing. It’s a self-respect thing. It’s a respect for your teammates. It’s a respect for this game. It’s a respect for this country… It’s an opportunity to realize how lucky you are…”
