Who Needs Bat Flips? Jose Bautista Does Epic Home Run Trot After Crushing Game-Tying Dinger (Video)
The Toronto Blue Jays need every win they can get right now. Sure, they are currently sitting atop the American League Wild Card standings. But only by one game. A three-game skid and suddenly the bluebirds are out of the playoff picture with just a week to go in the regular season.
So Wednesday’s matinee against the Mariners in Seattle? It mattered. But when Jose Bautista came to the plate with one out in the top of the 9th inning and erased a 1-0 deficit with a monster blast down the left field line, the fiery slugger didn’t flip his bat a la Game 5 of the 2015 ALDS. Instead, he gently dropped the bat in the batter’s box and did a backwards home run skip down the first base line while watching to see if his bomb would stay fair.
Take a look:
Once again, Joey Bats comes through in the clutch for the Blue Jays. And as you can see, there were plenty of Blue Jays fans there to experience it. In fact, pretty much everyone at SafeCo Field on Wednesday was a Blue Jays fan.
Unfortunately, unlike Game 5 of the ALDS, this one did not end well for Canada’s team. They wound up losing 2-1 in 12 innings.
The backwards home run skip was fun, though.
