Who Needs Brady? Pats Third-Stringer Jacoby Brissett Scores 27-Yard TD, Gives Ball to Bill Belichick (Videos)
With Tom Brady spending his free time calling in to local radio shows and Jimmy Garoppolo sidelined with a shoulder injury, Patriots third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett got his first career start against J.J. Watt and the Texans on Thursday night.
That’s a pretty tough first assignment for a rookie QB. But this is the Patriots we’re talking about. So obviously Brissett was outstanding, and the Pats won 27-0.
While the rookie only connected on 11 of 19 pass attempts, he didn’t fumble or throw any interceptions. Plus he was lethal on the ground, rushing for 48 yards, including this brilliant 27-yard touchdown run:
If you remember Brissett from his days at NC State, you already knew the kid can break tackles. But you probably didn’t expect him to find immediate success in the NFL.
Apparently Bill Belichick did, though. Which is probably why Brissett went over to the evil genius after his milestone touchdown and gave him the football.

Then again, given the Pats’ tendencies, maybe Brissett was just trying to hide the evidence.
