Mariners Catcher Steve Clevenger SUSPENDED for the Rest of the Season after Controversial ‘BLM’ Tweets
While many people have their opinions on the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement and whether it’s for the best or not, most try to avoid saying something too controversial that could possibly get them in trouble.
Seattle Mariners catcher Steve Clevenger threw caution to the wind when he took to Twitter to give his insensitive opinion on the movement.
On Friday, he found out just how harmful those tweets were when he got suspended for the remainder of the season.
“As soon as we became aware of the tweets posted by Steve yesterday we began to examine all of our options in regard to his standing on the team,” Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said in a statement. “Today we have informed him that he is suspended for the remainder of the season without pay.”
The 30-year-old catcher will lose approximately $32,000 of his $516,000 salary this season.
