Panthers’ Mike Tolbert Pays Mechanic $3,900 in Coins After Disput Over Bill
For Carolina Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert, revenge is apparently a dish best served really, really heavy.
In Charlotte earlier this week, Tolbert got so pissed off at a mechanic over the cost of his bill that the mechanic called the cops on him. When the cops showed up they told Tolbert he had to pay his bill. But Tolbert didn’t whip out his checkbook or his Visa. Instead he went to the bank and got $3,900 in coins.
That much we know it true. The exact details of the situation are up for dispute.
Tolbert claims in an Instagram post that the folks at Motion Lab Tuning quoted him a price and an estimated time of completion, then upped the price after going two months past the original completion date.
Queen City and surrounding areas!!!! If you need any motor work or anything done to your car I urge you DO NOT I repeat DO NOT go to this place! I was quoted a price and a 10 day completion time frame!!! 2 1/2 months later still not done and upped the price from the original quote! Terrible business and owner! I expected a level of professionalism that I did not receive and the owner expected me to pay more because I’m “a millionaire”!!!! Charlotte beware they are crooks to the fullest extent!!!
In a Facebook post that has since been deleted, Motion Lab Tuning say that’s not how it happened at all:
Today was a huge waste of time and a major disappointment. Many of you may know who Mike Tolbert is. He plays for the Carolina Panthers. He had an old car at the shop for a motor swap. You might think because he is a professional athlete he would be a fair and ethical person.
From the beginning, he attempted to get us to do work for free because he is ‘Mike Tolbert’. So today, I am disappointed that it came to this, I had to call the police on Mike Tolbert. He and his buddy threatened me. CMPD actually banned him from the property today. They forced him to pay his bill before leaving though. In a passive aggressive manner, he thought he would get the last laugh by paying in coins. Pretty dumb really. All $3,900 in coins were easily identifiable as they came from a bank in boxes and perfectly counted out. I will say this, those coins will be taken in the boxes they came in and will be taken to a teller at BOA for deposit.
Now he is slandering me, saying things that weren’t true. Name calling, etc. Jesus man just pay your bills and be a good person. I also have to break it to my son who is a fan of Mike Tolbert that he is a real scumbag that doesn’t want to pay his bills.
There’s a special place for guys like Mike Tolbert. People like him that try to cheat a small business. Shame on him for this type of behavior.
So who’s telling the truth? At this point it’s impossible to say. Maybe Tolbert. Maybe the mechanic. Maybe neither. Maybe both.
Everybody knows there are shady mechanics out there looking to rip you off at every turn. And everybody knows millionaire athletes can be prima donnas. All we know for sure is that the cops were called, because they confirmed it.
