This Jonathon Simmons Chase Block on Steph Curry Sums Up Warriors Blowout Loss to Spurs (Video)
The mighty Golden State Warriors lost their season opener. At home. By 29 points.
Last year they won 24 straight games to start the season en route to an NBA record 73 wins, and they didn’t lose a game at home until April 1. Then, after losing the NBA championship to LeBron and the Cavs they went and added another MVP caliber player in Kevin Durant, making them the runaway favorites to win the NBA title this year. But at Oracle Arena on Tuesday, in front of 20,000 fans ready to witness the beginning of a new, even more dominant era of Warriors basketball, Steph Curry and company got hammered by Gregg Popovich‘s San Antonio Spurs.
How bad was the thrashing? Jonathon Simmons came off the bench to score 20 points for the Spurs.
He also pulled off an epic chase down block on Steph Curry that can only be described as LeBronian. Check it out:
Jonathon Simmons is a great story. The guy went undrafted out of Houston in 2012. After messing around with the American Basketball League for a year, he tried out for the Spurs’ D-League team in 2013 and made the team. After spending two seasons there, he actually made the Spurs’ roster in 2015, making his NBA debut at the age of 26. Despite getting sent down to the D-League four times in his rookie season, he averaged 14.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per 36 minutes.
On Tuesday Simmons helped annihilate the scariest basketball team on the planet.
His salary this season is $525,093.
The San Antonio Spurs, everyone.
