During the offseason, NBA superstar and future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade made the difficult decision to leave the Miami Heat, the only team he’s ever played for, and join the Chicago Bulls. There was a lot that went into the decision, starting first and foremost with the fact that Wade felt disrespected by the way the Heat handled his free agency. But the fact that he was from Chicago was also a major factor. Maybe he was inspired watching his buddy LeBron go home and win a championship for his hometown. Maybe he just missed the deep dish pizza. Whatever the reason, Dwyane Wade decided to go home.

On Thursday night, D-Wade made his regular season debut with the Chicago Bulls at the United Center. And the homecoming went as well as could possibly be expected.

Wade took a knee to say a prayer of thanks during his pregame introduction while fans gave him a roaring welcome:

Then he went and recorded six rebounds, five assists, and 22 points, including a dagger three with 26 seconds left on the clock—at which point he turned to the fans and made the classic throat slash gesture.

Wade and the Bulls would go on to win 105-99. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
