Amar’e Stoudemire Plays Basketball Like a Hockey Goon, Drills Israeli League Defender (Video)
Amar’e Stoudemire may have retired from the NBA, but he has not retired from basketball.
One guy who probably wishes he had retired for good is Guni Israeli, point guard for Hapoel Holon of Ligat HaAl, the top tier Israeli basketball league.
After signing a one-day contract with the Knicks in July, the six-time All-Star signed a two-year deal with Hapoel Jerusalem, a team he just so happens to co-own. On Sunday, during a game against Hapoel Holon, Stoudemire ran down the court and plowed into Guni Israeli at full steam, knocking the guy to the floor.
Unfortunately it’s pretty difficult to find game details about Israeli League basketball games if you don’t speak or read Hebrew, so we don’t know if Stoudemire had a good reason to flatten Guni Israeli, or if he just felt like getting the crowd all riled up.
We do know per The Score that Stoudemire received an unsportsmanlike foul on the play. And we also know from the video that Stoudemire waved to the his fans, who gave him a standing ovation as he walked back down the court.
Take a look:
If Stoudemire was not the most popular player on Hapoel Jerusalem before, he probably is now.
