REPORT: Cam Newton Benched Because of a Trip to the Strip Club, Not Because of a Tie
If you are one of the millions of people with whom the official explanation for Cam Newton‘s benching just did not sit right, this post is for you.
As you already know, Panther’s coach Ron Rivera made the 2016 NFL MVP sit out the first series of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, starting backup QB Derek Anderson in his place. After the game, the team said it was because Newton violated the team’s travel dress code by not wearing a tie.
There was just one problem with that explanation. As many observers were quick to point out, Cam Newton goes without a tie all the time.

Wait. Cam Newton “broke team rules” for not wearing a tie, but these looks are ok??! pic.twitter.com/u2dT4vK3dY

If the benching was really about a dress code violation, why now?
Well, it could just be that Rivera had spoken to Cam about the dress code on numerous occasions and this was the last straw. Or it could be that the benching had to do with something else entirely, and that the dress code violation was just a cover up.
Like, maybe Cam Newton violated team rules by taking a bunch of teammates to a strip club during the Panthers’ recent west coast road trip. Because according to Barstool Sports‘ source, that’s what really happened:
“I have it on good authority from someone who has steered me right before that this has nothing to do with a dress code. Unless you count the dress code in the strip club Newton took some teammates to while the Panthers were staying out near San Francisco between games on the West Coast.”
