Orioles’ Executive VP Duquette: ‘We’re Not Signing Jose Bautista Because The Fans Don’t Like Him’
Some people like to dance around a question without actually answering it, but then there are those who are more straightforward and just tell it like it is.
Former Toronto Blue Jays RF and current free agent Jose Bautista can cross at least one team off his list of possible destination this offseason, and it has nothing to do with money.
Baltimore Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette confirmed on Wednesday that his organization will not be targeting Bautista during free agency, because the fans really don’t like him and his antics.
“We told (Bautista’s) agent that we are not interested because our fans don’t like him,” Duquette said, according to Mike Wilner of Sportsnet 590 The Fan. “Our fans don’t like Jose Bautista, with good reason.”
Back in April, Bautista hit a home-run off Orioles pitcher Darren O’Day and talked trash about it after the game. The following series between the teams, Bautista didn’t like the fact that a pitch was thrown behind him, so he responded with a two-run HR, stared at it, flipped his bat, and yelled obscenities at Orioles players as he rounded the bases.
