Derek Carr Extends Offer of Help to Johnny Manziel, and Manziel Accepts (Tweets)
A nice thing happened between promising young QB Derek Carr and beleaguered former NFL player Johnny Manziel. When asked about Manziel’s hardships by the media, Carr, a draft classmate of Manziel, offered up some pretty kind words.
He said to MMQB:
“What’s crazy is, you know, I spent a lot of time around him. He’s such a good dude. I obviously wish him the best, you know I hope that … hopefully one day he’ll reach out, [I’d] be able to talk to him and be a friend to him.”
He was then asked if he would be willing to help out Manziel in his personal or professional life, to which he responded:
“Absolutely, man. Because he’s so talented, so I understand why he was drafted where he was. He could throw, could run, a dynamic athlete, dynamic player. Obviously he just had a little trouble. He’s still young though, so hopefully he’ll get another chance someday and he’ll be alright.”
Nice words, but the real story came about when Manziel caught wind of Carr’s comments and reached out to him via Twitter. Manziel’s tweet and Carr’s resposne are below:
@JManziel2 absolutely bro! I’ll be in touch for sure.

I have a feeling these guys will really connect and hopefully find a way to help each other out.
