Fan Spends $800 to See LeBron James Play Only for Cavs to Give Him the Night Off (Pic)

Cavs Rest LeBron James

The Cleveland Cavaliers decided to rest their big three of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love for Wednesday night’s game against the Grizzlies. In fact, none of them even made the trip to Memphis.

The move was totally understandable from the point of view of the team and players. The Cavs have been to two straight NBA Finals, and LeBron has been to the last six. That’s a lot of extra basketball. The team has to do what it has to do to keep players rested and in peak physical condition to make it through the grind of the regular season.

That said, it still sucks for fans who paid a lot of money to watch the reigning NBA champs and the greatest basketball player of his generation. And one fan in particular made sure the Cavs and the NBA heard his frustration:

The guy travelled four hours and paid $800 just to watch LeBron play, and instead he got Mike Dunleavy. That sucks. I myself considered buying tickets to see LeBron when he came through my town earlier this year, but I decided against it for this very reason.

The good news is that the new collective bargaining agreement is supposed to extend the regular season so players can get extra rest without taking games off. So theoretically things like this should happen less going forward.
