Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney Gives Awesome Interview After Winning National Championship (Video)
Dabo Swinney was only a wide receivers coach when he was named interim head coach of the Clemson Tigers midway through the 2008 season. Normally you’d expect one of the coordinators or associate head coaches to get that kind of gig, but Clemson picked Swinney because he had a knack for recruiting.
On Monday night, eight years after taking over the program, Swinney led Clemson to a thrilling comeback win over Nick Saban‘s heavily favored Alabama Crimson Tide in the CFP National Championship Game. It was the Tigers’ first championship since 1981, and afterward Swinney reminded everyone why he’s such a great recruiter when he gave an emotional, humble, and heartfelt post-game interview to ESPN’s Sam Ponder.
Swinney talked about love. He talked about Clemson fans who couldn’t afford to go to the championship game. He talked about his love and respect for Alabama, his alma mater. He talked about Deshawn Watson. And of course, he talked about God.
Take a look:
That was one hell of an interview. I’m about ready to transfer to Clemson, and I’ve been out of college for 10 years.
Even the most die-hard Crimson Tide fan would have a hard time hating Dabo Swinney here.
Congratulations, Clemson fans.
