LFL Tweaks Uniforms, Players to Wear Yoga Pants for First Time (Pics)
The Legends Football League made a major announcement regarding their uniforms this week. Then they took it back.
On Tuesday the LFL announced that, for the first time, players in what was originally called the Lingerie Football League would be wearing pants. However, after they published their press release, the LFL apparently backtracked.
On Wednesday, Bro Bible quoted LFL media relations director Phillip Darnell as specifically addressing the reason for switching to pants.
“The uniform has been subject to a lot of discussion and at times controversy since the sport’s inception in 2009,” Darnell explained. “Original uniforms from 2009 to 2012 when the brand was known as the Lingerie Football League were a skimpier sports bra and boy shorts with lingerie accents. In 2013, with the re-brand to Legends Football League, there was a complete change of fabric to performance compression wear and all lingerie accents were removed.
“Fast forward to 2017, the next major evolution of the on-field uniform has arrived, full pants uniforms which will place more of the viewer’s attention on the athlete and sport as well as providing greater safety for athletes.”
That certainly is interesting. However, when I clicked on the link directing me to the official LFL press release, that quote from Darnell was nowhere to be found. In fact, the debut of pants was put firmly in the background. The press release now focuses on the revamped primary uniforms, which will still include bikini bottoms:
The pants? Which are supposed to be safer and help focus the viewer’s attention on athletic ability rather than sex appeal? Those will ONLY be worn in the final game of the season. And they put that image further down, after the image of the new bikini bottom uniforms.
So what happened? My guess is the LFL announced the pants, got immediate negative feedback, chickened out, and reverted back to bikini bottoms.
But hey, maybe they’ll switch to yoga pants full-time in 2018.
