Magic Johnson Believes The Lakers Will Suck For 3-5 Years Before They’re Good Again
Despite hiring Luke Walton as head coach, the Los Angeles Lakers are 19-37 so far this year and well on their way to their fourth straight losing season.
VP Jim Buss decided to bring back Lakers legend Magic Johnson as a special advisor to see if he can turn this franchise around that is so used to winning year in and year out. Magic realizes that with the current roster, it’s going to be a long process and the fan base will need to be patient.
“It’s going to take three to five years to get them back rolling again,” said Johnson during an interview with CBS This Morning.
“It’s different than when I played. In today’s NBA, you have to really develop your own players because free-agent movement isn’t like it used to be. You have to make sure you hit a homerun when you draft and try to keep the players you have on your roster.”
Head coach Luke Walton was asked about those comments from Magic and he had this to say.
“Three to five years sounds normal for a rebuild.”
At least those two are on the same page, but until then, the Lakers are stuck under a cloud of suck.
