The love affair in New York is all but over between Phil Jackson and Carmelo Anthony.

On Friday, Knicks President Phil Jackson spoke to the media and fired multiple shots at Melo, stating it would be best if the rest of his career was spent with another franchise, because the Knicks needed players who could  “be active and play every single play, offensively and defensively”.

“We’ve not been able to win with (Anthony) on the court at this time,” Jackson said. “I think the direction with our team is that he’s a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere where he can win or chase that championship.”

Right now we need players who are really active can play every single play both offensively and defensively. We have some players right now who can do that and that’s the direction where we need to go.

Carmelo has been known to take a nap or two on the defensive side of the ball, then disrupt the offense with his constant one-on-one play—on top of his public statements about disliking the triangle offense.

Melo caught wind of the comments and responded via Instagram:

REALLY #StayMe7o
