REPORT: Paul George Told Teammates His Dreams of Playing For The Lakers
After a season filled with trade speculation on where Paul George might end up during the trade deadline, and being swept in the playoffs by the Cavs, people fully expect George to make his exit from the team this offseason.
If George makes an All-NBA team this year, he could score a massive deal in free agency that is upwards of a six year, $223 million deal. There is one team that may be willing to throw some cash George’s way, and if they do he would happily accept.
Jeanie Buss brought Lakers legend Magic Johnson back on board to right the Lakers ship and his first big task is landing Paul George.
“The Lakers have always had a superstar,” Johnson told AM 570 LA Sports with Roggin and Rodney. “That is what we are going to try to bring in here.”
Johnson was asked what he would do if he saw Paul George on vacation while appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, and he made it clear, he will definitely be pursuing him.
“No, we gonna say ‘hi’ because we know each other,” Johnson said. “You just can’t say, ‘Hey, I want you to come to the Lakers,’ even though I’ll be wink winking like, ‘you know what that means right?'”
According to Sporting News contributor Mitch Lawrence, George may have been keeping his future plans secret from the Pacers organization, but he hasn’t kept it a secret from his teammates. In fact, he’s actually said to have openly discussed it in the locker room.
“A SoCal native, he’s been talking about playing for his hometown team, the Lakers, for a long time. He’s never made his long-term intentions a secret within the Pacers’ locker room, according to former teammates. He wants to wear the purple and gold.”
Only time will tell.
