Rashad Jennings Edges Out Fan Favorite David Ross in “Dancing with the Stars” Finale (Video)
NFL running back Rashad Jennings edged out retired Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross to take home the Mirror Ball Trophy in the finale of Dancing with the Stars on Tuesday night. Jennings finished first, Ross second, and Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei third.
Jennings, 32, is currently a free agent who spent the last three seasons with the New York Giants. He joins a long list if NFL players to find success on DWTS. Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, and Donald Driver are all past winners, while Jerry Rice has a second-place finish and Calvin Johnson a third.
Of course, Ross—or Grandpa Rossy at he is affectionately known to Cubs fans—was the sentimental favorite. He is the first Major League Baseball player to compete on DWTS, and he was not expected to advance to the final. However, his willingness to humiliate himself endeared Ross to fans and judges. And on Monday night he and partner Lindsay Arnold earned a perfect score for this performance to “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”:
At Wrigley Field on Tuesday, Ross’ former teammates were glued to televisions following their win over the Giants, eagerly awaiting the announcement.
Unfortunately, they didn’t get the outcome they wanted:

Grandpa Rossy didn’t sound too broken up about his second place finished, however.
“Just being in the finals, one, is way more than I ever expected,” Ross explained. “And the fact that I’ve got support from so many great people, and that they look up to me and watch this show and support me, just … I don’t even have the words, just a lot of thanks.”
Unfortunately, David Ross’ ballroom dancing career is most likely over. However, if you want, this summer you can catch Rashad Jennings shaking his groove thing in a town near you. He’s going on tour!
