Celtics’ Danny Ainge: Lonzo Ball ‘Politely’ Declined Workout With Celtics
….With the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, the Boston Celtics select…
Not Lonzo Ball, apparently.
Once the Los Angeles Lakers secured the #2 overall draft pick, it was a foregone conclusion that Lonzo Ball would be headed there. In fact, his father, LaVar Ball, had already stated Lonzo had no plans to work out for any other teams.
The Boston Celtics currently hold the #1 overall draft pick and Danny Ainge recently explained that the team attempted to get Lonzo to work out for them, but it wasn’t happening.
“We just tried to get him in for a workout and they politely said no,” Ainge said of Ball and his representatives.
“It’s not ideal,” Ainge admitted. “We’ve drafted guys that wouldn’t come in for workouts before. I mean, it’s not the end of the world, we watched him play a ton, we have a lot of information on him.
“It’s not like skipping a workout is thumbing their nose at you or anything like that. They’re making their priority teams. Sometimes players don’t want to come in … they see our roster and they prefer to go to another team.”
The Celtics have been mum publicly as to who they would take in the draft., but all signs are pointing towards them selecting Fultz with the top overall selection.
