J.R. Smith, Wife Open Up About Daughter Born Five Months Premature (VIDEO)
A 3-0 deficit in the NBA Finals is not the biggest task J.R. Smith has to deal with in his life, as there are more pressing concerns at home.
The Cleveland Cavaliers guard and his wife Shirley recently sat down with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols for an emotional interview prior to Game 3 of the NBA Finals. During the interview, they talked about their daughter, Dakota, who was born five months premature in January.
“My wife needs me, my daughter needs me. Nothing is more important at this point in my life,” a tearful Smith told Nichols. “When you see your child go through some … like in most of my life, I’ve been able to be in control of everything, and something like that, you have no control. And it’s your child and obviously I would do anything for her. It hurt.”
