Allen Iverson Says He Rooted for Warriors Because He Wanted Kevin Durant to Get a Ring (Video)
Hall of Fame point guard Allen Iverson is a huge fan of Kevin Durant. And during the NBA Finals, it seems he was living vicariously through the Warriors star.
In a new video shared by Ice Cube‘s BIG3 league, Iverson is seen talking on the phone to somebody after watching Game 5 of the NBA Finals, and whoever he was talking to got to hear The Answer’s unfiltered take on the series.
“LeBron’s the best in the world,” Iverson says. “But sometimes the better team beats you, man. They got beat by the better team. It happened to me before.”
AI then goes on to praise Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving and coach Tyronn Lue—the victim of his famous stepover from Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals—but says he was rooting for the Golden State Warriors this time because of KD.
“I wanted to see Durant win, because he ain’t never did it,” Iverson says. “I love his mama. I love everything he stands for. That’s the only reason I was going for Golden State. I wanted Durant to feel what I never got the chance to feel.”

That’s a pretty touching sentiment.
Of course, it should be noted that this video was shot before KD said Kyrie Irving is better than Iverson.
