De’Aaron Fox’s Goal Was ‘To Shut Lavar Ball Up’ In UCLA Showdown
Former Kentucky Wildcats guard De’Aaron Fox put the sports world on notice after he lit up UCLA standout Lonzo Ball for 39 points back when they faced each other in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament back in March.
The projected lottery pick revealed on Thursday he had some extra motivation for the game, because of the hype entering the contest surrounding Bruins star point guard Lonzo Ball.
“(I wanted) to shut Lavar Ball up,” Fox told Andrew Sharp of Sports Illustrated. “When I knew Lonzo in high school, I’d never seen his dad before. He went crazy this year. I guess when your son a lottery pick, that gives you a lot of confidence.”
Fox made it clear that he and Lonzo are friends, but believes numerous outlandish comments from Lavar have put a target on his son’s back heading into his rookie season in the NBA.
Fox is looking to one-up Lonzo once again, as he’s been rumored to be a possibility for the Lakers with the second-overall pick.
