Joe Buck Owns Up To His U.S. Open Screw-Up in VERY Funny Way (Video)
On Sunday, Brooks Koepka won the U.S. Open, but the bigger story was Joe Buck‘s screw-up following the victory, in which the announcer referred to the golfer’s girlfriend by the name of his ex. It wasn’t a big deal, as I don’t expect any announcer to know anyone’s girlfriend, but it was still pretty funny and awkward.
Buck got roasted for it and went on The Dan Patrick Show yesterday to own up…sort of.
Actually, Buck rightfully said it wasn’t a big deal and he’d done far worse before.
“I’ve done way worse than this, that’s the funny thing. But it was before the age of Twitter and kind of click-bait stuff, when I asked [Arizona Diamondbacks player] Tony Womack at the end of a division series game when he was hugging a woman down on the field and I was interviewing him from the booth. Truth be told, I couldn’t really see [her]. But we had just been talking about how he lost his dad on Father’s Day that year. He’s hugging this woman and I said, ‘Hey Tony, I can’t imagine how that feels, who’re you hugging down there, is that your mom?’
“The needle came off the record and he goes, ‘No, that’s my wife!’”
There you have it, folks. Joe Buck being awkward is apparently nothing new…although I’m sure you were already aware of that.
