Injuries, Bad Allen Iverson Make For Disappointing BIG 3 Opening Day (VIDEOS)
Ice Cube‘s experimental 3-on-3 basketball league, BIG 3, held it’s opening day on Sunday at the Barclays Center. And the result was…well…not very good.
The fans came out to support Cube’s league during it’s inaugural slate of games. There were even some celebs in the house, including New Jersey Nets newly acquired guard D’Angelo Russell, who was booed after being introduced to his home crowd for the first time since the trade.

As for the rest of the audience, well, let’s just say that they probably didn’t get what they had hoped for. After all, these players are much older, washed up, and quite injury-prone as well. And it didn’t take long for the league to claim it’s first casualty.
During the first game of the day between the 3-Headed Monsters and the Ghost Ballers, Monsters co-captain Jason “White Chocolate” Williams went down with what appeared to be a serious knee injury:

From there, it all went downhill. In the second game of the day, there was another injury, with Power captain Corey Maggette being forced to leave his team’s 62-58 win over Tri-State with a knee injury.
Next came the moment everyone was waiting for—the third game between Allen Iverson‘s 3’s Company and Brian “White Mamba” Scalabrine‘s Ball Hogs.
AI did make one basket during his highly-anticipated return to the court:

But he missed his other five attempts, going 1-for-6 for a total of two points in very limited action. It didn’t take long for the crowd to voice their displeasure:

Despite the limited help they received from their captain and best player, Iverson’s 3’s Company still came away with a victory. But with A.I. officially done for the evening, most of the fans decided to pack up and leave before the final game between Trilogy and the Killer 3s:

Those who did stick around were treated to a 60-45 blowout in favor of Trilogy.
They were also treated to another injury, this one to the hamstring of Trilogy captain Kenyon Martin:

All in all, a rough opening day for BIG 3. Maybe Ice Cube can pick up Kobe and Shaq before week two, else this league may not last long enough to make it to the Championship Game at T-Mobile Arena on August 26.
