Jon Stewart Will Host SportsCenter Live from Warrior Games in Chicago on Friday Night
We’ve got some good news and some bad news for all you Jon Stewart fans out there.
The good news is that Stewart is returning to basic cable. The bad is that it’s for one night only.
As part of ESPN’s coverage of the Warrior Games, Stewart will host the 7pm edition of ESPN’s SportsCenter alongside Hannah Storm on Friday night. The longtime Daily Show host will also take part in the 6pm and 11pm editions, all of which will be broadcast live from Chicago’s United Center, site of the 2017 Warrior Games.
Organized by the United States Department of Defense as a way to celebrate the courage and perseverance of soldiers, the Warrior Games feature 265 wounded or ill current and former service members. Stewart hosted the opening ceremonies on June 30.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the comedian has been instrumental in helping the Games receive national attention:
Stewart attended last year’s Warrior Games, held at West Point, and he recently told the Chicago Tribune that he had the idea then that they should be televised on ESPN. “It was great, but it was [just] the athletes, their families, their caregivers and it felt like something that the public should be involved in,” Stewart said.
“On the way home, I was saying, ‘This is where the cameras should be, this would be perfect for ESPN.’ And my son just said, ‘Well, why don’t you call them?’”
Tune in to SportsCenter this evening to see what the Warrior Games are all about.
