Terry Francona Undergoes Heart Procedure, Will Miss All-Star Game
Yesterday, Indians manager Terry Francona underwent a heart procedure (cardiac ablation) to address an irregular heartbeat. The good news is that the skipper will only remain in the hospital for one or two more days. The bad news, at least for those excited to see the Cleveland manager suit up in the All-Star Game, is that Francona won’t return to the field until July 14th, meaning he’s out for the Mid-Summer Classic.
The MLB, kindly and somewhat surprisingly, is promoting two Cleveland bench coaches to managing duties, meaning the Indians staff will still run the show for the AL.
Hopefully, this procedure will do the trick for Francona, who’s been hospitalized three times in the last month and has been wearing a heart monitor to track his heart rate.
