Independent WBO Review Confirms Horn-Pacquiao Decision Was Correct
This is exactly why people believe the sport of boxing is rigged.
A little over a week ago, when Manny Pacquiao lost in a unanimous decision to challenger Jeff Horn in an Australian bout, much of the world went absolutely nuts as to how the judges scored the match as they did.
Last week, Pacquiao asked the WBO to follow through on a request from Philippine sports officials to review the outcome of the welterweight championship bout. He did not get what he wanted.
An independent panel consisting of five judges confirmed the initial decision was correct. The original judges scored the fight 117-111, 115-113, 115-113 in Horn’s favor.
“From the results, it can be established that Pacquiao won five rounds while Horn won seven rounds,” the WBO said in a statement.
Three of the judges ruled in favor of Horn. One chose Pacquiao and the other ruled the bout a draw.
“It gives me evidence behind me that I can just use now. Instead of saying ‘I think I won the fight,’ now a heap of other people – professionally – think I won the fight,” Horn said via The Associated Press. “It’s definitely nice to have it finally put on paper.”
