DeAngelo Williams Says He’ll Now Play For The Carolina Panthers After The ‘Snake’ GM Got Fired
To the shock of most people in the Carolina Panthers organization, the team decided to part ways with GM Dave Gettleman, according to team owner Jerry Richardson.
“After much thought and a long evaluation of our football operations, I have decided to relieve Gettleman of his duties as general manager,” Richardson said in a press release Monday. “I want to thank Dave for the role he played in our success over the past four seasons. While the timing of this decision is not ideal, a change is needed.”
Last week, former Carolina Panthers and current free agent running back DeAngelo Williams listed four team that he wouldn’t sign with, and the Panthers were on that list for this reason:
“The Carolina Panthers would be team No. 2,” he said. “And the reason being is because of the way they handled my exit. I had no problem with getting fired, but (there were) things that went on there that I didn’t like, and I still don’t like to this day, however they have rectified the situation in terms of other players.”
“You don’t go back to exes, and that’s just where I’m at there,” Williams added.
Things quickly changed after the news came down of Gettleman being shown the door.
I want to publicly say @Panthers is off my list of teams I won’t play for due to the firing of that snake Dave gettleman! ✊
