Watch Aaron Judge Fire 97 MPH Strike to Home Plate to Complete the Double Play (Video)
New York Yankees rookie Aaron Judge doesn’t just hit rockets. Turns out he also throws them.
Judge, who won the 2017 MLB Home Run Derby last week by smashing baseball after baseball into the stratosphere, showed off his defensive skills in Minnesota on Monday night.
With the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the third, Twins third baseman Miguel Sano hit a fly ball to right field. After making the catch, and despite having very little forward momentum, Judge fired off a throw to home that registered a whopping 97.7 mph on the radar gun.
Much to the surprise of the announcers, and pretty much everyone else who happened to be watching, the throw beat Twins second baseman Brian Dozier to home plate, where Yankees catcher Austin Romine applied the tag to complete the double play.

A 97 mph strike with hardly any forward momentum? I guess we know what position player will take the mound for the Yankees next time they find themselves in an extra-inning marathon.
This Aaron Judge kid is pretty good.
