Paul Pierce Says ‘Celtics Are Back’ & It’s Time To ‘Dethrone LeBron’
Paul Pierce is back in Celtics green!
Not to actually play, but to sign a one-day contract so he could officially retire with the team he spent the majority of his career with.
After the team signed former Utah Jazz star Gordon Hayward, Pierce sees a shift in the Eastern Conference and the Celtics are primed and ready to take down the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I like the whole squad, man. It’s time to dethrone LeBron in the East. We back. We back,” said Pierce, per Jay King of MassLive.com.
With the amount of star players that are bolting from the Eastern Conference to the Western Conference, the Boston Celtics may be the only formidable challenge to the Cleveland Cavaliers for years to come.
With the addition of Jayson Tatum in this year’s draft—and watching him being named to the All-Summer League second team, capping a Summer League in which he averaged 17.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game—Pierce has a bunch of confidence in the incoming rookie.
“That Tatum kid, he’s going to be real as long as he keeps working,” said Pierce. “He’s got a lot of the tools. I like that kid.”
